Publicly, cycling seems to be making inroads in the U.S. Cities and towns across the nation are investing in infrastructure and bike sharing programs. Political candidates, for the most part, endorse these activities, as do all but the most vehement anti-cycling proponents, but that may not be what’s going on behind the scenes.
If we read between the lines, we can see subtle signs that not all is well with respect to inviting cyclists to share the road or even to invest in infrastructure that separates bicycles from cars. A conversation I had with a non-cycling friend of mine, along these lines, reminded of a couple of articles I read early last month.
