When Self-Absorbed Drivers Precipitate Rants

All of my readers know me as a cyclist. Some of my readers know that I am also a driver. This duality provides me with a vantage point not seen by those who are exclusively drivers.

I watch drivers all the time. I observe them when I’m riding alongside them. I scrutinize them when we stop. I try to get a sense of what they’re thinking and whether they are paying attention or whether their mind is elsewhere. This is my typical mindset when I’m on my bike.

But this habit of driver observation does not stop when I enter my car. Since my life depends on the will and actions of drivers when I’m on my bike, instinct kicks in when I’m in traffic and the steel confines of my car does not prevent this.    Continue reading ….
