Anti-Helmet Law Advocates Arguing Strictly On The Basis Of Statistics

It’s difficult to ride a bicycle in a developed country without the topic of helmet use coming up. To the safety-minded, helmets seem like a good idea. To the freedom-minded, requiring the use of helmets seems like a loss of self-determination.

All but the most zealous anti-helmet proponents believe that helmets have some benefit, and can protect against certain types of injuries. But, that’s where the agreement ends.

With respect to head injuries, some argue that helmets can cause injuries and should be avoided. Others argue that helmets protect against some types of injury, but not others, so they are useless. And, this is just the beginning.  Continue reading ….
