Autumn’s Cycling Herds Thin Out As Winter Sets In

Boston’s first snowstorm occurred about a week ago, in early December. Some years we get lucky and no snow falls until late December or early January. The timing of the first snow may not matter to some people, but it matters to many cyclists.

Snow can signify the end of a long cycling season. Not everyone who rides a bike wants to deal with slush and ice and slippery snow.

As soon as such cyclists see accumulating snow, and realize that it will stick to the ground instead of melting, they put their bikes away to wait for spring. They go into cycling hibernation so to speak.  Continue reading ….
