We’ve all heard of the proverbial deer in the headlights. This phrase is used to describe either a deer itself or someone who is staring mindlessly as if he or she was a deer in the headlights.
Deer have an annoying habit of standing in front of a moving vehicle and staring into the headlights instead of running away from the vehicle. Too often this results in their being hit by an oncoming car.
A long time ago, I did some research on why deer behave the way they do. I learned that they were crepuscular. which is just a fancy word for animals whose activity peaks within an hour or so on either side of sunrise and sunset.
