The term “salmoning” has become quite popular for describing the act of bicycling the wrong way down a one-way street. Salmon are known for swimming against the tide. They do this because fresh water is required for them to lay their eggs, and this is how they locate it.
Interestingly, although it has nothing to do with bicycling, salmon change colors when they swim against the tide. According to experts on the subject, to whom I will defer, the change in color from bright red to pale pink is the result of using up their energy stores by swimming against the tide.
