A few years ago, I had a run-in with a car while riding my bike. I was riding along the right-hand side of a main road when a car entering the road ran a stop sign and slammed into my front wheel.
As bad as this sounds, it could have been worse. It was one of those moments where natural athletic ability saved me from what might have been a catastrophic accident.
Every time I ride this stretch of road — or any other road where side streets feed into the main road — I slow down slightly as I approach the side street to make sure any cars approaching the intersection are slowing down and look as if they intend to stop. In Massachusetts, with its large number of aggressive drivers, it isn’t always easy to determine whether an approaching car intends to stop. Continue reading…
