When most people hear the word “epidemic,” they think of disease. Famous epidemics include diseases such as Bubonic Plague, malaria, smallpox, cholera, and typhus.
Some of these epidemics have been seen in a specific area, that is, a country or a continent, while others have been worldwide. Global epidemics are a modern phenomenon since, unlike in the past, humans are able to easily travel from one part of the world to another, which allows them to spread disease.
With the advent and improvement of modern medicine, there have been fewer epidemics than in the past. Perhaps that’s why the word “epidemic” has taken on a new meaning. Continue reading ….
