We’ve been led to believe that drivers would never want to be cyclists. Too often, drivers disparage cyclists, stereotyping them with all sorts of negative characteristics and claiming that they are a nuisance on the road.
It’s all been said before: cyclists are entitlement minded; cyclists are scofflaws, cyclists show a reckless disregard for everyone they share the road with… and so on and so forth. This is what the media tells us and hearing this reflects the experiences of many cyclists.
By stating such things, drivers are essentially claiming superiority. Not only do they see their vehicles as superior, but they see themselves as superior.
