According to an article I read recently, Boston has the fourth worst traffic in the U.S. Statisticians say that it takes 4.25 times as long to reach a destination, which would ordinarily take 20 minutes to drive. (source: GeicoNow Fall/Winter edition, pg. 16). The study cited in this article was conducted in 2013 by the Texas A&M Transportation Institute which uses the Planning Time Index to compare drive times in heavy traffic (e.g. during rush hour) with drive times seen when the same roads are clear.
