Years ago, when I was forced to drive more for my job, I was a member of a large roadside assistance company. At that time, the annual cost was quite low, and the benefits were extensive, so I saw it as a good deal.
As the years passed, and I drove less, the increasing cost of this service drove me to the decision to end my membership. I took good care of my car, and it rarely broke down, so it seemed unlikely that I would need someone to assist me more than once every few years.
Around the same time, my credit card company began adding benefits to retain customers. Among those benefits was a roadside assistance service. It was not as comprehensive as the previous service I had been using, and there were costs associated with their assistance, such as towing costs, but I thought it would do in a pinch.
